Standards Versions
The Register records the adoption of each version of a standard in the VIN series and the date on which it took effect. A version takes effect in the Network only when a notice of its adoption is entered here. The text of each standard, and the procedure for declaring conformance to it, are published by the Developer Portal of the Network.
| Identifier | Title | Version | Status | Date of effect | Adopted by |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| VIN-1 | Interoperability Baseline | 1.0 | In force | 6 September 2026 | Notice 2 (2026) |
| VIN-2 | Identity Federation | 1.0 | In force | 6 September 2026 | Notice 2 (2026) |
| VIN-3 | Incident Reporting Format | 1.0 | In force | 6 September 2026 | Notice 2 (2026) |
| VIN-4 | Registry Data Model | 1.0 | In force | 6 September 2026 | Notice 2 (2026) |
| VIN-5 | Message Envelope | 1.0 | In force | 6 September 2026 | Notice 2 (2026) |
Version numbers are those given by the Developer Portal. A new major version replaces the version in force; a minor version is adopted only where the adopting notice says so. No version has yet been superseded or withdrawn.
Status terms. The status of a version is one of the following.
- In force
- The version to which systems connected to the Network must conform. Only one version of a standard is in force at a time unless the adopting notice provides otherwise.
- Superseded
- A version replaced by a later version adopted by notice. A declaration of conformance to a superseded version remains valid for the period that the adopting notice allows, after which the system must conform to the version in force.
- Withdrawn
- A version withdrawn by notice without replacement. Systems relying on a withdrawn version must be brought into conformance with another standard, or disconnected from the Network, within the period that the withdrawing notice allows.
Transitional arrangement. Under Notice 2 (2026), a system in use on 6 September 2026 that does not conform to the versions in force may continue in use until 1 March 2027, after which it must conform or be withdrawn from the Network. Every connected system must conform to VIN-1 and VIN-5; the remaining standards apply to systems that perform the functions they describe.
A notice adopting, superseding or withdrawing a version is deposited and entered in the same way as any other notice; see How notices are published and Depositing records. Questions about an entry in this table may be sent to contact@register.gov.vin.
